alpha brain review 4 277

Alpha BrainTM has been formulated to improve memory, focus and attention by combing alpha GPC, botanicals, GABA and Vitamin B6.   These ingredients enhance the levels of acetylcholine, dopamine and GABA to support memory, calmness, reward and punishment pathways in the brain.  Moreover, Alpha BrainTM supports alpha wave activity during wake and sleep states.  When alpha waves are present during sleep states they occur in REM (rapid eye movement) sleep.  The more alpha waves you have the more you re able to take control of your dreams and learn from them.  This form of sleep is known as Lucid Dreaming.  Higher levels of alpha waves during wake states creates a sense of calmness.

There are 4 main ranges of frequencies in the brain known as alpha, beta, gamma and delta.  Alpha and beta waves are found during waking states and gamma and delta are found during sleep states.  The matter of fact is, all of these ranges of frequencies can be found in the brain at all times.  It’s just a matter of your state of mind as to the percentages of each that will be present.  You can have gamma, delta and alpha waves present in some proportion in what would be called delta sleep.  For a healthy sleep or wake state you need to be in balance with all these frequencies.

Our concern here is alpha wave activity.  These waves have a range of frequencies that run between 8 to 12 Hertz.  This range of frequencies put your brain into a relaxed state of mind.  When alpha waves predominate everything is calm and peaceful.  Many people have difficulty in achieving this state because of the stress in their lives.   This state is often achieved by closing your eyes and relaxing, exercising such as Yoga or some mind training you are familiar with.  When you are in this state, beta waves diminish.  Beta waves are predominate when you are actively doing something like working or studying etc.  It has long been believed that alpha waves promote the healthiest brain state to be in.  It turns out that children have a predominance of alpha waves which tends to decline as we go through puberty.  Adults tend to have mostly beta waves during wake states.  Most unfortunate!   We are exposed to so many stressful situations that we can become overwhelmed with anxiety and fear that our brains become imbalanced quickly.  In case you were wondering, delta waves range from 1 to 4 Hertz, gamma waves range from 5 to 7 Hertz and beta waves go from 30 Hertz and above.  The lower the overall frequencies in the brain, the calmer you are.  The higher the frequencies the more active and stressed the brain is.

When you sit down and close your eyes, you will feel a sense of relaxation and calmness.  Not only does your body become relaxed but your mind does as well.  Your thoughts begin to slow down and your mind tends to become clear getting rid of all the noise that was present (decrease in beta waves).  At this point you may even feel drowsy as your anxieties and fears subside.  Alpha BrainTM has the ability to help you achieve this state throughout the day with one of its ingredients known as GABA.

Stress runs high in our culture such that many people run to their doctors for some form of tranquilizer.  If not that then its alcohol or recreational drugs.  Wouldn’t it be better to take something natural that has no side effects and actually benefits the brain for time to come?  There is a solution and that is the neurotransmitter GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid).

GABA is an amino acid that is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain which keeps your brain from getting over excited creating a calming effect.  Interestingly, GABA is made from glutamic acid (another amino acid) which is an excitatory transmitter.  You see, the brain already has a built in balance between excitatory and inhibitory transmitters so long as your life is in balance.  Not only is GABA an inhibitory transmitter but it supports the production of endorphins.  Endorphins are powerful mood elevators that make us feel good and  helps to increase physical strength.  Endorphins are often released under heavy physical activity to make sure you can complete the task.  They enhance your vision especially color such that colors become vibrant.  You become stronger than normal and your thinking is quick with enhanced focus and concentration.  On the other hand, GABA reduces levels of the neurotransmitters epinephrine, dopamine and norepinephrine while effectively increasing levels of serotonin the feel good transmitter.

If you are experiencing anxiety and are tense from your stressful day, you have a lot more beta wave activity than alpha wave activity.  Taking GABA promotes the production of alpha wave activity by inhibiting excitatory inputs bringing your brain to a calm state.  Not only are you calm and in control but mentally you have more focus and concentration.  This enhances your short-term memory making you pay attention to detail.  Short-term memory is necessary for laying down long-term memory.  Long-term memory comes faster and more accurate as well.  One thing leads to another.  Most molecular pathways are connected in one way or another.

All in all, GABA promotes alpha wave function by inhibiting neurotransmitters that promote beta wave activity and serotonin production so you have a sense of well being.  This produces relaxation and sense of calmness and brings about more creative states in the mind with a positive mental outlook.  Alpha wave production is especially nice when you have to solve that physics problem.  Alpha waves tend to be produced in the right brain, the creative side.  Often you get hung up on the left side of your brain (the so called logical side) and get stuck in a rut.  Increasing your alpha wave activity lets your right brain talk to your left brain breaking through the barrier.  Maybe not so interestingly. ninety percent of the people in the United States are left brain dominates.  The left brain is a critical brain and finds fault with everything.  It creates stress in its own right.  Increasing alpha wave activity balances out left and right brain to produce a more harmonious output.
